▲ THE BEAUTY OF ORIGINALITY ▲
There just isn't anything quite like the experience of having a special custom-designed garment added to your wardrobe which is exactly your style, exact fit to your body contours, incorporates your creative aesthetics and is a quality, well-made and completely authentic, original good which will most likely outlast anything produced as a volume retail item or machine-made ready-to-wear.
In my opinion and experience, the dispense of extra costs and effort to patiently wait for construction time is well worth the long-term value over buying something for immediate gratification, to take advantage of a sale or to look like a thousand other people. Obviously, there is no way in hell I could ever afford to completely fill my wardrobe with 100% custom-made couture, but I find there to be great value in investing in custom-made orders/tailoring for very specific, quality, statement pieces which you'll wear over and over again for years to come.
In my case, this often equates to leather boots or leather jackets, which, are almost daily incorporations of my fashion wardrobe and thus will withstand numerous years of wear, are sometimes hard to fit (as ready to wear) exactly to my contours, and are pretty timeless and classic pieces which will last through various fashion styles and wardrobe ensembles.
For both custom (and handmade ready-to-wear) clothing design and tailoring of delicate garments or leathers, one of my most favorite resources ever is AL's ATTIRE Custom Clothing located in San Francisco, CA
I visited Al's yesterday to inquire about a new custom order for a pair of black leather boots (one of my old custom pairs of black leather street boots have finally bitten the dust—after 13 years!!!) and I'm incredibly excited about having Al create this amazing new replacement pair to complement my favorite leather jackets and also fit my leg contours and accommodate my denim. I can't wait for my new boots, but I suppose that is part of the excitement of having something fully custom made just for you!
Above, I have shared a few quick iPhone snaps of Al's amazing workshop/retail space.
